SEND Teacher of PSHE

Location: Brighton
Salary: Circa £36,000 per annum
Hours: 40 hours per week (Monday-Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm)
Contract: Fixed-term until July 2025 (Permanent position possible)

About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced SEND Teacher of PSHE to join our dynamic education team. This role involves planning and delivering high-quality and engaging PSHE education, leading the development and implementation of the PSHE curriculum across the institution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of the PSHE (including RSE) curriculum in line with national guidelines and institutional policies.
  • Provide line management and support to PSHE subject-specific learning support workers.
  • Ensure the curriculum is inclusive, comprehensive, and promotes the personal, social, health, and economic well-being of all learners.
  • Stay updated with current educational trends and best practices in PSHE education.
  • Organize and lead professional development sessions and workshops for staff on PSHE-related topics.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver appropriate schemes of work and resources that meet the requirements of learners and agreed programs of accreditation or RARPA.
  • Assess, record, and report on the development, progress, and attainment of learners.
  • Collaborate with transdisciplinary teams and parents during the planning and implementation of the curriculum.
  • Support the development of learners’ skills of independence and employability.
  • Maintain a calm and orderly learning environment for learners to meet Autism Accreditation standards.

Person Specification:

  • Qualified teacher status (QTS/QTLS/Cert. Ed/PGCE).
  • Teaching experience, including planning, delivery, and assessment of learning.
  • Proven experience working with young people with complex needs.
  • Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and current SEND legislation.
  • Ability to produce high-quality learning and teaching materials and demonstrate innovation in delivery.
  • Commitment to continual professional development in SEND education.
  • Ability to teach learners from Pre-Entry to Level 2 ability ranges.
  • Ability to teach PSHE in both vocational and academic contexts.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with learners, colleagues, and stakeholders.
