The Protocol Group Partners with Black Leadership Group to Tackle Racism in Education
At The Protocol Group, we’ve always been committed to championing diversity and inclusion, particularly in the recruitment sector. That’s why we’re excited to announce our new partnership with the Black Leadership Group (BLG), a collaboration aimed at creating systemic change and addressing the deep-rooted racial inequalities within the UK’s education system.
Our partnership stems from a shared mission: to build a diverse teaching workforce that reflects the rich cultural tapestry of the communities it serves. The urgency of this work has never been clearer.
A recent National Foundation for Educational Research report highlighted a striking disparity—60% of schools in England had an all-White teaching staff in the 2021/22 academic year, and this figure was even higher in senior leadership positions, with 86% of schools reporting all-White senior leadership teams.
To tackle these issues head-on, The Protocol Group and the Black Leadership Group are coming together to drive change. We believe that diverse representation in teaching is essential not just for fairness, but for creating inclusive, inspiring educational environments where all students feel seen, heard, and valued.
A Pioneering Partnership
As part of our collaboration, The Protocol Group and BLG are excited to announce the Global Conference, From Generation to Generation: Anti-Racist Thought & Action®, set for 20th March 2025.
This high-profile event will feature Professor David Olusoga OBE, the renowned historian and broadcaster, who has become a leading voice in the UK on issues of race, history, and justice.
His acclaimed BBC documentaries, such as Black and British: A Forgotten History and BAFTA winning Britain’s Forgotten Slave Owners, have reshaped the conversation about Britain’s colonial past and its ongoing legacy.
Professor Olusoga will be sharing his insights on how we can collectively push for a more inclusive, anti-racist future. His keynote address will kick off an important discussion that brings together voices from five generations, both online and in-person, to explore how we can take meaningful action towards racial justice.
The conference aims to create a cross-generational dialogue, with attendees from different age groups sharing their experiences and ideas about racial equity. This will be especially significant as the event takes place on the eve of the UN’s International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
Why This Matters: Education’s Role in Changing the Landscape
Education plays a pivotal role in challenging and changing societal attitudes. When students see themselves reflected in the educators who lead and teach them, it strengthens their sense of belonging and fosters a culture of respect and inclusivity. Unfortunately, the current lack of racial diversity in the teaching workforce means that many students are not receiving the representation they need.
Through our partnership with the Black Leadership Group, we are amplifying efforts to build a more diverse and inclusive teaching workforce. We will focus on removing unconscious bias from the recruitment process, ensuring that diverse candidates have equal access to opportunities in education.
At The Protocol Group, we are committed to promoting inclusive recruitment that helps build more representative educational environments. This partnership with the Black Leadership Group is an important step towards ensuring that every student, regardless of background, can see themselves in their teachers and feel empowered to succeed.
What’s Next: Working Together for Real Change
This partnership is just the beginning. The Protocol Group and the Black Leadership Group will continue to work together on a range of initiatives, including networking opportunities, learning platforms, and events focused on driving forward the agenda of racial equity in education. We are also committed to leveraging the Black Leadership Group’s extensive network to help provide the UK education system with a more diverse and representative workforce.
The Global Conference will play a central role in this mission, bringing together thought leaders, educators, and activists to discuss and share strategies for creating positive change. Through keynotes, workshops, and panel discussions, we’ll address issues of racial justice, identify concrete actions for progress, and give attendees the tools they need to take action in their own communities and workplaces.
The Path to a More Inclusive Education System
We believe that the next generation of leaders will be crucial in creating the anti-racist society we all strive for. By working together with the Black Leadership Group, we are taking bold steps to ensure that the future of education is diverse, equitable, and inclusive for everyone.
