Salary: £30,411 per annum
Hours: 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year

Protocol Group, working in partnership with a leading Further Education college in Hull, is seeking an experienced and dedicated Skills Coach – Level 3 Engineering. This is an exciting opportunity for an engineering professional to support and mentor apprentices, ensuring they develop the skills and knowledge required to excel in their careers.

About the College

Our partner college is a well-respected vocational institution committed to creating careers rather than just delivering courses. As one of the largest providers of technical education in the region, the college takes pride in offering high-quality teaching, strong employer partnerships, and an inclusive learning environment that supports learner success.

The Role

The Skills Coach will be responsible for inducting, coaching, mentoring, and assessing apprentices on Level 3 Engineering apprenticeship programmes. The successful candidate will work both on-site with employers and within the college, supporting learners throughout their journey.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing tailored coaching and mentoring to apprentices, helping them develop essential engineering skills, knowledge, and behaviours.
  • Delivering high-quality assessments and ensuring apprentices achieve their qualifications to a high standard.
  • Tracking learner progress using an online e-portfolio system, ensuring timely completion of all elements.
  • Embedding functional skills, including maths and English, into coaching sessions to support overall learner development.
  • Maintaining strong relationships with employers to ensure apprentices receive relevant and high-quality training.
  • Collaborating with the employer engagement team to support apprenticeship recruitment and employer partnerships.
  • Contributing to the development and continuous improvement of apprenticeship programmes.

Candidate Requirements

  • A Level 3 qualification in engineering or a related field.
  • An assessor qualification (or willingness to work towards one, with support provided).
  • Industry experience in engineering, with a strong understanding of apprenticeship standards.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to engage both learners and employers.
  • Strong IT proficiency, with experience managing online learning systems preferred.
  • Flexibility to travel as required to support learners and employers.

Benefits

  • Generous annual leave entitlement.
  • Excellent pension scheme.
  • Full support to gain further teaching or assessing qualifications if required.
  • The opportunity to transition from a hands-on engineering role into mentoring and workforce development.

This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the professional development of future engineers while working with a forward-thinking Further Education college.

To apply, please submit your CV and a covering letter outlining your suitability for the role.
