Skills Coach – Plumbing (Fixed Term until 31st July 2025)

Salary: £30,411 per annum + £5,000 Market Supplement
Hours: 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year
Protocol Group, working in partnership with a leading Further Education college in Hull, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Skills Coach – Plumbing. This is a fantastic opportunity for an industry professional to support and mentor apprentices, helping them develop the skills, knowledge, and behaviours required to excel in their careers.

The Role
The Skills Coach will be responsible for coaching, mentoring, and assessing plumbing apprentices across employer premises, college sites, and remote learning environments. The successful candidate will ensure apprentices progress effectively through their programme and achieve the highest possible outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing guidance and support to a caseload of apprentices throughout their learning journey.
- Delivering coaching, mentoring, teaching, and assessment to meet the requirements of apprenticeship standards.
- Monitoring and tracking learner progress via an online e-portfolio system to ensure timely completion of all elements.
- Building and maintaining strong employer relationships to support apprentices’ success.
- Developing tailored learning programmes that meet industry needs and standards.
- Embedding functional skills in maths and English within all aspects of training.
- Contributing to programme development, quality improvement, and standardisation processes.
- Supporting employer engagement activities to identify new apprentices and employer partnerships.
Candidate Requirements
- Industry experience in plumbing, with a strong understanding of apprenticeship training and assessment.
- A recognised teaching or assessing qualification (or willingness to obtain one).
- Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to engage apprentices and employers effectively.
- Strong IT proficiency, with experience using e-portfolio systems preferred.
- A commitment to maintaining high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment.
